Patio umbrella lighting is a viable alternative for individuals seeking to light up their outdoor space in a fun and unique way. Patio umbrella lights are compatible with outdoor umbrellas of all sizes and are easy to attach. When choosing an umbrella light, there are several things to consider.
There are two types of umbrella light mounting options. The first mount type attaches directly to the umbrella's pole. These mounts are often circular shaped and feature several light bulbs around the bottom. These battery powered units use high-efficiency LED bulbs to converse power while providing a bright light source. Because of its design, pole-mounted patio umbrella lights work best at illuminating a small area such as a table. Solar powered models are also available which use a solar panel placed on the exterior of the umbrella to gather energy during the day. Solar umbrella lights feature a sensor which automatically turns the light on at night. During installation, the umbrella usually has to be removed from its stand, whereupon the light is slid up the umbrella shaft to a position just underneath the veins. These mounts come with a series of adapter rings to allow the use of the light on a variety of pole diameters.
Another type of umbrella light features a series of light strings which line the umbrella veins. Using clips, each string of lights is attached to a vein on the umbrella. This setup has a more surreal feel and is designed more for aesthetic appeal than functional lighting. Each string of lights connects to a central power receptacle under the umbrella, which in turn connects via the extension cord to a wall power source. Vein lights can be found in a multitude of colors to compliment any design or decor.
In most cases, patio umbrella lights allow the umbrella to be folded down without obstruction. These lights are designed for outdoor use and can withstand most weather conditions.
