Freshwater aquarium snails help in cleaning the tank thus relieving you from doing the chores. Generally, aquariums are home for fish but it is also suitable as habitat for other creatures. Freshwater aquarium snails are ideal to keep along with your fish not just as a pet but also for its ability to clean the tank. Although snails eat the fish eggs but generally it causes no disturbance to fish. It is ideal to get aquarium snails from fish stores rather from the wild to avoid disease outbreaks and spread of parasites. You should not include freshwater aquarium snails in a tank where there are larger species of fish as it maybe eaten by fish such as the clown and skunk loaches.

There are several varieties of freshwater aquarium snails available in many pet shops. An example of which is the golden mystery snail that is a large yellow snails. This is useful in eating the food scraps and algae. While the Malaysian trumpet snails are useful in attacking filamentous hair algae because it is omnivorous. However, if you want to add aquarium snails just as a decorative creature in your tank, you can choose spixi snails and red ramshorn that are interesting species and appealing as well.

Nevertheless, you should also consider the health of the aquarium snails that are sensitive with acidic water. It can affect and harm the shell of the snail that is why it is recommended to keep the aquarium water above neutral or you may use calcium carbonate. It is not necessary to give supplemental feeding to your aquarium snails as it may lead to the increase in numbers of the snails that may plague proportions. Freshwater aquarium snails should also be given proper care just like with your fish so that you will enjoy their company as a pet or as an aide in keeping your water tank clean.
