Freshwater Aquarium Fish

Freshwater aquarium fish is great for anyone who likes to have one either as a business, for display or as a hobby. Aside from the aquarium and other amenities, it cannot be denied that you should also devote time to really choose what fish to get.

Here is a guide that would introduce you some of the desirable freshwater fishes.

1. Aba Knifefish which is also called Aba Aba knifefish is one of the largest aquarium fishes reaching up to 5.5 feet long.

This fish is dangerous because a big specimen could easily remove a careless person’s fingers. If you still consider having this kind of freshwater aquarium fish, you can get it at a minimum size of about three inches and bigger.

It is not advisable to get it when the yolk sack still show because these are still very weak and survival is very slim when taken. Aba knifefish is found in the Nile River, Volta, Chad, Senegal and Gambia basins and he Lake Rudolf in Africa.

2. African Knifefish is found in many of the coastal rivers of Africa like Congo, Nile, Niger, Ogooue and Chad River. This fish is one of the easiest to catch species of knifefishes. This freshwater aquarium fish is a good candidate for community aquariums that can contain medium to large sized fishes.

The African Knifefish can grow as large as 12 inches, but a maximum size of 8 inches is more realistic for a tank raised specimen. Because this fish is wild caught, at first it may become shy but given the time it will come out of its shell and tend to socialize.

3. African Tiger usually grows to an impressive size and is definitely a specialty fish. The maximum size of this fish is 3.5 feet and over 60 pounds. One look at those teeth of this freshwater aquarium fish lets you know that it is a voracious predator.

This fish is related to Piranha but only larger specie. It uses those huge teeth to chop large fish into bite size pieces and even tank mates can be at risk unless the Tiger Fish are kept extremely well fed.
Freshwater aquarium fish raising is a great hobby and responsibility but to watch your aquatic collection with pride is relaxing and enough to be proud of.
